Paul Rust joined the City of Weatherford’s Fire Department as the Assistant Fire Chief in June of 2009. After a year and half of managing the department’s operations and training, Chief Rust was appointed to Fire Chief.
Prior to joining the Weatherford Fire Department, Chief Rust served 16 years with the Waxahachie Fire Department. During his tenure in Waxahachie, he progressed through the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief. As a Battalion Chief, he was responsible for the department’s training division, emergency medical services, and firefighter wellness/fitness program.
Chief Rust holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fire Administration from Western Illinois University and is pursuing a Master’s in Disaster and Fire Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Chief Rust is an accredited Chief Fire Officer (CFO) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, a Chief Fire Executive (CFE) through the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, and a Fire Service Chief Executive Officer (FSCEO) through TEEX and Texas A&M University. He holds certifications as a Master Firefighter, Fire Officer IV, and numerous others with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. He is a Licensed Paramedic with the Texas Department State Health Services.
